Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

Traduction de Manuel M

As its name indicates it, The Simplex Ernoflex is the simplified and cheaper version of the Ernoflex. These two cameras come from the Ernemann brand that Zeiss Ikon recovery in 1926. Zeiss Ikon continued to propose this model on its catalogue until 1931.

This reflex mono-lens camera is equipped with a roller-blind shutter with three slits of 3, 15 and 30 mm (plus one fourth position of 40 mm for the 853/3) coupled to a spring with 4 adjustable levels of tension. The unit allows a range of 12 speeds from the 1/20 to the 1/1000 of second, plus the poses B and T. On the other hand, no speeds lower than the 1/20 second

An abacus is located on the top of the camera.

The adjustment of the slit is done at the right hand, as well as the poses B and T, and release. On the left hand, one adjusts the four levels of tension of the spring, with clearing button.

The focusing is made at by the top or the back, therefore on each of the two glass grounds.

The lens is mounted on a helical mount. On the model presented, it is about a Tessar of 135 mm open to 3.5. As the catalogues offer only one Tessar open to 4.5 and that the serial number of this one (739148) dates it in 1927, it must be a lens of salvage.

The small part on fronting on the right of the lens is used to hang the thin strap connected with the cap lens which misses on the model presented.

Three formats are available:

853 in 4.5 x 6 cm
853/3 in 6.5 x 9 cm
853/7 in 9 x 12 cm (that presented)

Four lenses are also proposed: Ernoplast 3.5 or 4.5, Ernon 3.5 or Tessar 4.5.

The Simplex Ernoflex seems to present some differences according to the formats such as the openings of the viewfinder, toward the front or the back, or the adjustment of the spring tension, on the right or on the left of the camera.
